MISD to focus on internet safety during Digital Citizenship Week

Empowering students to think critically and make informed choices about how they create, communicate, and treat others in the ever-evolving, 24/7 digital world is a priority for the district.  Students need to know the decisions they make communicating on the Internet contribute to their digital identity, or digital tattoo.

With this purpose in mind, Midlothian ISD is declaring the week of October 1-5, Digital Citizenship Week. Campuses will focus on themes tied to Internet safety through daily activities and instruction.

All MISD Schools Meet AYP Status

2012 AYP Requirements Rise

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) status on August, 8 2012. The Federal Government, through No Child Left Behind (NCLB), measures all public schools and districts through an annual evaluation rating of either “Meets AYP” or “Missed AYP.”

According to the TEA, only 44% of Texas schools met AYP targets. In Midlothian ISD, all nine campuses met AYP with a total of 96% passed reading/English language arts (ELA) test and 93% passed the mathematics test.  The graduation and attendance rates were also part of the criteria.

Midlothian ISD as a district missed AYP based on math performance.  This is the second year the district missed AYP in math and must submit a district improvement plan to the state as well as send letters to parents notifying them of the AYP status.

The 2012-13 performance standards to meet AYP will be 93% in ELA and 92% in math.  A 100% proficiency on both tests will be required by 2014 – a goal that will be challenging for all school districts.

MISD teachers will continue to help all students attain their personal level of success filled with 21st century learning opportunities.

TEA will release final AYP data by December.  For more information, visit www.tea.state.tx.us/ayp.

First-Day Enrollment Packet Now Online!

Online EnrollmentFor the first time, Midlothian ISD is offering the ability to sign off on its first day forms/packets electronically. In order to conserve paper and printer supplies, MISD has elected to move to a paperless system. If parents are unable to complete this process online, there are computers in the A.H. Meadows Library for public use. (Library Hours: Monday-Wednesday 8am-6pm, Thursday 8am-8pm, Friday 8am-4pm and Saturday 10am-4pm.)

This is a new technology resource that gives parents secure online access to validate/update the necessary enrollment forms in English or Spanish. If parents do not plan to re-enroll their child in MISD next year, please promptly notify MISD by writing “Not Returning” across the parent letter received in the mail and return it to the child’s current campus.
